What is mobility of teeth classification?

Mobility of teeth classification is used to determine the severity of tooth movement from its original position. There are several levels of tooth mobility, which are classified as follows:

  1. Class 1 Mobility: This is considered as the mildest form of tooth mobility. In this level, the tooth moves slightly, about 1mm in any direction. The tooth is still stable in the socket and does not move when pressure is applied.

  2. Class 2 Mobility: In this level, the tooth moves more than 1mm but less than 2mm in any direction. The tooth is still stable, but when a slight pressure is applied, it moves.

  3. Class 3 Mobility: This is the most severe level of tooth mobility. In this level, the tooth moves more than 2mm in any direction, even without applying any pressure. The tooth is very loose in the socket and can be easily moved.

Tooth mobility can be caused by a variety of factors, including gum disease, trauma, and occlusal forces. The level of tooth mobility can be determined by a dentist during a dental exam, and treatment will depend on the severity of the condition.
